PillPal vs MyTherapy

MyTherapy pairs medication reminders with a health journal: measurements, symptoms, printable reports and sharing with a care team. PillPal by Black Box Code keeps to the reminder and makes it very hard to miss.

Quick answer

Choose MyTherapy if you want medication reminders plus a health journal: blood pressure and other measurements, symptom tracking, refill reminders, printable reports for appointments, and sharing with family or a care team, all tied to an optional account. Choose PillPal if you want the reminder itself to be the product: set up in under a minute with no account, time-sensitive notifications that get through Focus, Taken, Snooze and Skip from the lock screen, and a home-screen widget with doses left and your streak. PillPal keeps everything on the device and works offline; its free tier includes every feature for up to three pills. Both run on iPhone and Android with an offline medication library, both log doses from the notification, and both now keep a streak. MyTherapy's measurements, symptom journal, printable reports and team sharing are what its optional account is for; PillPal records doses only and keeps them on the device. Comparison checked August 2026, streaks re-checked September 2026.

Do you actually need a health journal?

If your doctor asks for readings, MyTherapy's measurements and reports are the point of the app and PillPal does not compete. Its Google Play listing describes reminders for more than 20 health measurements, a symptom and pain diary, monthly health reports and family profiles. If nobody asks for readings and the problem is simply remembering the pill, a journal is one more thing to keep up with, and easy to let lapse.

Which app is better at the moment of the dose?

PillPal spends all of its effort here: a reminder that gets through Focus and stays until you act, one-tap Taken from the lock screen, a widget that shows what is left, a streak and a small celebration when the day closes. MyTherapy keeps a streak too; the difference is that PillPal's whole screen is the dose, deliberately the only thing on it.

Accounts and privacy

PillPal has no account and keeps pills, schedules and history on the device. MyTherapy offers an account for sync and sharing, which its reports and team features depend on.

Which should you choose: PillPal or MyTherapy?

Need a health journal and reports: MyTherapy. Need the dose to happen and be remembered, with nothing extra to maintain: PillPal.

PillPal is a reminder tool, not medical advice. Nothing here tells you what to take or how much; follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.

Questions about PillPal vs MyTherapy

Can PillPal record blood pressure or symptoms?

No. PillPal records doses only: taken, snoozed or skipped, with the time. If your doctor asks for blood pressure readings, weight, glucose or a symptom journal, MyTherapy is built for exactly that and can print a report for an appointment. PillPal deliberately stays a reminder and a dose log so there is nothing extra to keep up with.

Which is simpler for an older parent?

PillPal, by design. There is no account, no password and no login screen, the Today screen shows only what is due with a large circle to tap, and the reminder itself carries big Taken, Snooze and Skip buttons. A family member can set every pill up from the bottle labels in about five minutes and then hand the phone back.
